Program Description

The Honors College Global Village is a specially designed experiment in international living for students in the Honors College and for other eligible students right in Salisbury, MD. The Global Village is open to students who are juniors and seniors, graduate students, English Language Institute students, and non-degree-seeking incoming exchange students. The Global Village is affiliated with the Honors College and is located at Seagull Village.

The Honors College Global Village brings together in one living community international students from around the world and American students from Maryland and throughout our region. The one thing that all residents of the Global Village share in common is an openness to diversity and cultural sensitivity. Residents are eager to make new friends from around the world and to learn about and from others of different language groups, faith traditions, cultural backgrounds, and ethnicities.

If you want to cultivate a lifestyle in which you live as a citizen of the world, choose the Global Village.

International Students

If you are an international student coming to Salisbury University in a joint degree program with one of our partners abroad, or studying English in our English Language Institute, or spending a semester as a visiting exchange student, the Honors College Global Village is the ideal housing option for you. You will have the opportunity to live alongside American students who are eager to get to know you. If you are only studying for one semester, you do not have to worry. One semester contracts are fine in the Honors College Global Village. There are always students from around the world coming and going to and from Salisbury University.

US Undergraduate Students

US students studying abroad for a full semester often worry about housing back on campus. With international students and study abroad students coming and going every semester, there is always flexibility. Another great advantage of the Honors College Global Village for US study abroad students is the opportunity to continue the global learning you started abroad or to prepare yourself for your semester overseas.

You do not have to be a registered Honors College student to live in the Honors College Global Village. The Honors College Global Village is just one more way that the Honors College enriches the learning experience of all Salisbury University students.

If you wish you could study abroad for a full semester but for reasons beyond your control you just cannot make it happen during your undergraduate career, you can study abroad right in Salisbury. Take advantage of the global learning that is right in front of you on campus by living with students from around the world and other American students who share your interest in the histories, cultures, languages, and peoples of the world. It is the next best thing to getting on that airplane.

Graduate Students

Full-time degree-seeking graduate students are welcome at the Honors College Global Village. Depending upon number of residents, graduate students will be housed with other graduate students or upper-class undergraduates when necessary. The Honors College Global Village understands both how graduate students are different from undergraduate students and also how much leadership and wisdom graduate students can bring to the community. If you are a new graduate student to Salisbury University, we hope you will consider living in the Honors College Global Village.

Language Immersion Apartments

You do not need to speak a second language to love living in the Global Village. But, if you are working hard to learn a second language and you want to continue to practice as often as you can, a Language Immersion Apartment might be right for you. Depending on enrollment in the program, we can place students in a dedicated apartment where the three residents all commit to practicing the language within the apartment. If you are interested in a language immersion apartment, indicate your preference in the application and we will follow up with you.

Roommates

The Honors College Global Village is designed to mix American and international students in the same apartments. Each apartment in the Honors College Global Village is three bedrooms, one bathroom, with shared kitchen and living space and free laundry. Students may request to share an apartment with a friend as long as they are open minded about welcoming a third student to the friendship. If you have more than two friends who want to live together, we can put you close to one another. The Honors College Global Village is a community. We want friends to nurture their friendships and to make new friends from around the world.

Costs

Housing in the Honors College Global Village is billed by semester. For academic year 2019-20, the cost is $3300 per semester. Fall semester leases run Aug 15- Dec 30. Spring semester leases run Jan 15- June 1. The Honors College Global Village also houses international students in the Summer English program during the month of July. Semester residents who want to remain in their apartments for the summer may sign a separate summer lease and join the fun in the summer.
