Program Description

HIGHLIGHTS:

-earn 16 credits in Biology and Environmental Sciences while taking classes abroad and doing field research.
- Salisbury University students have the unique opportunity to spend the semester exploring the environment of their choice by means of “field-based learning and research” which:
- focuses on problem-solving of real-world issues critical to local communities
- interacts with community members and agencies to implement research goals that meet community-defined goals
- uses interdisciplinary models to best address the complexity of Environmental problems
- promotes collaborative team efforts
- Employs experiential learning, applying classroom concepts directly in the field

-Take part in environmental field studies abroad in one of the School for Field Studies’ 8 semester programs where each site offers a curriculum specific to its ecosystem:

HOUSING:

Housing varies from site to site: from shared 8 person cabins in Australia, dormitories in Bhutan, Cambodia and Costa Rica to “rustic” living conditions at the field station in Tanzania. Students need to be aware that they will participate in communal living.

COURSES:

Every semester, each of the School for Field Studies’ program offers 16 credit hours in Environmental Studies and students can get Salisbury University credits in Environmental Studies and Biology.

An additional two-credit language and culture course in offered in Bhutan, Costa Rica, Cambodia, Panama, Peru and Tanzania

COSTS:

Estimated costs can be found on the Budget Chart below. Fees are paid directly to Salisbury University. Costs include all SU tuition and fees, fees with the School for Field Studies, housing, and substantial in-country support provided by the School for Field Studies including some excursions and events.
