Program Description

Costa Rica’s history of democratic stability has contributed to one of Latin America’s highest levels of foreign direct investment per capita. Travel with the Latin American University of Science and Technology (ULACIT) to explore how Costa Rica strategically positions itself in the areas of business entrepreneurship and technology. Immerse yourself in Costa Rican economy and ecotourism by participation in a ten-day interactive learning experience. This examination will provide a broader understanding of how businesses thrive within the strong entrepreneurial support system of the country. Excursions are centered on presentations by top executives at multinational and small, local, startup, companies. An exploration of the amazing ecology and natural resources of the country and how businesses thrive in that atmosphere. Return to the US with a first-hand account of how business, technology, and entrepreneurship impacts the culture, history, cuisine, arts and economic structure of a country steeped in tradition and history.

CLASSES:
BUAD 386: Business in its Global Setting (3 credits)
HONR 312: Research Creative Project (1 credit)

EXCURSIONS:
Plans are for portions of the class to take place at major historical, cultural and natural sites, both international and local businesses, as well as small towns. You will explore the city of San Jose, University of Science and Technology (ULACIT), other small towns focusing on the nature, wildlife, natural resources, and the businesses that thrive in this amazing country. Volcano's, coffee & cacao plantations, and the glorious pacific coast will be on the highlight reel of the trip. Students will also have free time in all locations to explore.

HOUSING:
During the time in Costa Rica, students will stay in youth hostels which include typical Costa Rican facilities and breakfast.

COST:
The cost of the trip will include 3 credits SU tuition and fees, lodging, in-country transportation, scheduled excursions, and many meals.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
The application deadline is May 1, 2016. Students will be admitted on a rolling basis. Once the maximum number of students have been admitted and have submitted the Confirmation of Participation form, additional students may be added to a waiting list. Students will create an online account profile and then submit their application online by selecting "Apply to this Program" below.

Students will submit the following through their online application:

- An unofficial transcript demonstrating overall Grade Point Average of 2.5
- A statement answering the question: "How will my participation in the Salisbury Abroad: Costa Rica - Entrepreneurship, Technology & Business Strategy program contribute significantly to my academic career and influence future plans?"
- A faculty recommendation may be requested.
